SIMOLIO Battery Upgrade: Safer and Longer-Lasting

Lithium-ion batteries have revolutionized our daily lives with their efficiency and versatility. From smartphones to electric vehicles, these batteries power many of our essential devices. But how can we use lithium batteries more safely and make them last longer? In this blog, we'll dive into the safety features of SIMOLIO upgraded lithium batteries, helping you understand how to optimize their use.

1. Battery Appearance

In our daily lives, we come across various types of lithium batteries—long, square, pancake-shaped, cylindrical, and more. You might wonder, do these different shapes affect battery performance? Which type is safer?

Different battery forms essentially serve as the battery's "clothing." A hard shell acts like armor, providing excellent impact protection, while a soft-pack shell, made of flexible materials, is lightweight and commonly used in portable devices like smartphones and headphones. Each shape corresponds to a specific use case. For instance, cylindrical batteries are designed to evenly distribute internal pressure. They often include a safety valve at the top, which automatically releases gas when internal pressure reaches a certain threshold, preventing the battery from swelling or exploding. Overall, cylindrical batteries encased in hard shells tend to be safer.

Based on these results, SIMOLIO has upgraded the battery design by combining these two forms. The cylindrical inner battery design with a relatively robust casing ensures maximum safety for the battery.

2. Material Classification

Lithium-ion batteries use a non-aqueous electrolyte solution with lithium metal or lithium alloy as the positive/negative electrode material. The positive electrode materials are typically lithium alloy metal oxides, such as lithium cobalt ate, lithium magnate, or nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) ternary. The negative electrode is usually graphite. The movement of electrons between these electrodes generates the current, and with it, heat. Among various materials, NCM ternary batteries are known for their stable structure, high capacity, and superior overall performance. They are widely used in small electronic devices like laptops, smartphones, and MP3/4 players.

SIMOLIO has adopted a new approach by switching to NCM ternary materials, which enhance thermal stability, reduce internal resistance, extend battery life, and provide more stable voltage. This minimizes the inconvenience caused by battery overheating or deformation.

3. Safety Features

Worried about swollen and exploding batteries? Don't worry, lithium batteries are relatively safe. When the internal voltage becomes unstable due to overcharging, excess gas is produced inside the battery. Over-discharging causes the internal materials to crystalline and charging the battery in this state will cause the metals to decompose and produce gas. This can lead to changes in the shape of the battery, but the probability of an explosion is relatively small.

How do these battery stays within a safe voltage range? Our innovative battery designs feature an intelligent integrated circuit (IC) that automatically monitors voltage fluctuations. When the voltage is too high or too low, the IC disconnects the power input/output, effectively preventing overcharging or over-discharging. Unlike other smart IC, our customized IC -- Non-zero Voltage Charging Protection has a lower minimum voltage threshold setting than the lowest voltage thresholds commonly found in the market. This means that our batteries offer more flexible charging conditions under the same usage conditions. Conventional batteries may become unusable if the battery voltage drops due to prolonged periods of non-charging, but our batteries will continue to work because the voltage threshold is low and will not easily reach a critical value, which helps to extend the life of the battery. This makes the battery easier to use, especially for older people, because you don't have to worry about forgetting to charge it for a long period of time and not being able to use it.

Practical Tips for Battery Use :

Avoid Overcharging: Use a charger with protection circuits and disconnect once fully charged.

Proper Storage: Keep batteries in a cool, dry place and recharge every three months if unused.

Prevent Damage: Avoid dropping or puncturing batteries.

Prevent Short-Circuits: Ensure terminals don’t touch metal objects.

Use Correct Charger: Match the charger’s output to the battery’s specifications.

Keep Dry: Store away from liquids.
